How to Go Karting

Lismore Kart Club (Northern Rivers Kart Club Inc.) is a motor sport club for young and old alike. We are a member only, family friendly, motor sport club focused on grass roots karting and development of our junior drivers. People of all ages can enjoy the sport with children as young as six getting behind the wheel.

If you are interested in the sport and would like to get into karting the best thing would be to attend a Lismore Club Race Meeting, have a chat to some of the members, drivers and pit crew, have a good look around, and determine whether you would feel comfortable with this sport.

We do not want to see you buy a kart that you are not allowed to be on track with or may need to upgrade soon after your purchase.

Whether you plan on racing or practice only, your kart must comply with the KNSW rule book and class that you would be competing in.

There are a variety of motors and chassis for these classes and if you are deciding to race you may find that some are not as competitive as others.

Karting NSW there are 4 basic age groups.

1. Novice – drivers 6-9 years old (6-year old are limited to practice only)
2. Rookies – drivers 9 –13 years of age
3. Juniors – drivers 12-16 years
4. Seniors -15 & over

To be on track, you must:

• Obtained either Practice or Race licence with Karting NSW.
• Hold full membership with Lismore Kart Club or as a visitor from another KNSW affiliated club.

We have regular come and try days if you would like to try karting under strict controls and overseen by accredited officials and club members.

The track is not available for private use or by non-licenced drivers i.e. drivers that do not have KNSW race/practice/interstate licence as they are not covered by insurance.

The club is run solely by volunteers and people are always needed to assist the running of our events. Just another way to get involved with a great bunch of people.

Our preferred suppliers do not ask for payment in advance and will give great advice to ensure that you are purchasing a kart that will be suitable for the class that would allow you to be on track for race and practice.
